History
Two centuries on the same corner
Part of the hotel sits beneath the bell tower of La Profesa church, which it once connected to.

- 1799 Manuel Tolsá builds the Profesa spiritual retreat house for the Oratorians, finished in 1801.
- 1869 After the Reform Laws, English businessman Thomas Gillow buys the house from the state.
- 1875 Hotel Gillow opens with three floors, adapted by architect Ramón Rodríguez Arangoiti.
- 1904 Tirso Sáenz remodels it and adds two floors.
- 1910 For the Independence Centennial, the façade is lit with thousands of tricolor bulbs.
- 1930s It reaches six floors, gains elevators and Art Deco interiors.
- 1974 A group of Mexican owners acquires it and runs it to this day.
